Although software localization is constantly changing, there are many issues, procedures and tools that will probably be applied for some time. This work provides an overview of the most common issues in today's software localization, from a translator's, engineer's and project manager's view.
Less than I expectedReviewed by P. Tunon, 2010-03-03
This book is a good summary of some aspects of localization,
nevertheless I have not found general information about how to work
about it.
A good book.
A Practical OverviewReviewed by Beverly Corwin, 1999-11-27
This book gives a broad overview of some very practical issues encountered in software localization. It generally covers the "whats" and "whos" in the introdcution, and moves on to the "how tos" in following chapters. There are a few solid localization examples of software, online help, HTML, and documentation; general information for Windows, HTML, and Macintosh systems. The discussion on translation tools includes most industry products available like Trados, IBM Translation Manager, Deja Vu, Amptran, STAR Transit, TSS Joust, SL8 TransPro, and Eurolang Optimizer, however, no mention of Uniscape. It discusses basic Engineering and Project Management issues with a nice layout of localization processes including Quotes, Analysis, Scheduling, Budgeting, Glossary & Terminology Setup, Testing, DTP, Documentation, QA and Delivery. In addition, the Appendices with Terminology and Localization Resources, provide some valuable background research. It briefly mentions Unicode and issues with other standards, though there is room for improvement with more useful information in that area. All in all, its clearly written and well organized... though a bit outdated, I say its time for a good revision.
a must have for anybody in the Localization fieldReviewed by Tiziana Perinotti, 1999-04-08
As an experienced professional in the Localization industry and as the creator of award-winning Silicon Valley Localization Forum. I strongly recommend this book. It contains an excellent overview of the most popular localization tools available on the market these days.
